A good wax is essential to any leatherworker, experienced or beginner. We've tested a variety of recipes and have found the perfect wax: Six Wax. It's a combination of three organic and ethically sourced waxes: beeswax from a local Northwest bee farm and honey supplier, candelilla wax, and carnauba wax. This wax gives your leather items a high sheen burnished edge with a hard shell that resists wear and moisture absorption, making them stand out from the rest.
To use Six Wax, we recommend the following steps:
- Wet the edge of the leather and use the provided canvas rag to brush the edge in the direction of the prominent grain. This will create a smooth surface with no fibers standing on edge.
- Wait for the wet to dry for a few minutes, then apply Six Wax to all edges you plan to burnish at once.
- Work your way around to the beginning, then use the canvas cloth to give a light burnish. This is to even out the wax on the edge.
- Apply one more light layer of Six Wax and, if you have a Dremel powered burnisher, finish up with that. Otherwise, go back over once more with a swifter burnish using the canvas rag. You should not need anything more than the canvas rag to get a great edge, but if you want a higher gloss, the power burnisher is a great option.
This item comes with a single canvas rag. Orders of more than one quantity will not include another rag unless you exceed three wax pucks. We've been using a single canvas rag through eight pucks and enjoy the accumulation of wax in the fibers.
